Painting, for me, is about people. The way a face holds a story, the way light falls differently on everyone — I find it endlessly fascinating.

A portrait takes time, and I’ve come to love that. Unlike a photograph which captures a single moment, a painting evolves — and so does my relationship with the subject. My mood, my eye, my understanding of the person all shift over the weeks I spend with them on the canvas. The finished portrait carries all of that time inside it. Because my process is long — a subject would probably have to move in — I work from photographs after the first meeting, which means I get to watch the portrait quietly change and grow in ways the original image never could.

My work spans portraits, animals and the human form. And yes, I do seem to like blue. A lot.
