I studied Graphic Design in Johannesburg, South Africa, and have spent over thirty years working as an Art Director and designer across South Africa, the UK, France and Canada. Along the way I’ve designed books and magazines covering just about everything — children’s education, music, travel, natural health, wildlife, natural history, film and yes, gay apparel too, repping for my people. The publishing world is rarely boring.

My most recent project is Spark, a digital ezine I created for the Ottawa Charge hockey community. Built in collaboration with an extraordinary photographer and the president of the fan community, it’s equal parts fan publication and design challenge — and it has reminded me all over again why I love this work.

I also do photographic retouching — not the kind that removes every trace of a human face, but the kind that honours what the photograph was always trying to be. It’s a lot like painting, actually. Except you get to undo. Many, many times.
